This is one of a few small paintings I’m finishing in my studio this week. This painting will be in my exhibit at the Bryan Memorial Gallery coming up next month. These elephants were two I observed during a visit to the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago last year. They stayed near each other, frequently touching or leaning against the other. It was hard not imagine they were comforting each other as their trunks entwined or periodically reached out to gently caressed the other. I thought the wrinkly skin would be a fun challenge to try and capture in a painting. So far, so good!

wow, the detail and variety of greys and browns is tremendous!
Thank you! I’m very happy with how it came out.
