Off The Drawing Board: “A Gentleman Caller” (wild turkey art)

wild turkey artI’ve long wanted to create a painting of the wild turkeys that frequent the areas around my home.  They offer quite a challenge to an artist, given the shimmer of a variety of colors that flash off their feathers, depending on how the light reflects on them.  I have what seems like hundreds of photos; the result of having the good fortune of being able to sit hidden at very close range to watch them for long periods of time.  They are one of the best success stories of restoring a specie almost lost here in New England and are thriving in the northern areas of New Hampshire.  I created this painting from a combination of several photos, a bit of “artistic license” with the surroundings and some painstaking efforts with all the details.  I’m pleased with the end results and hope you enjoy seeing it too!
