I’m finally able to spend some much needed time outdoors gathering reference material for future artwork. I’ve been sitting along various ponds, hidden within the brush and observing the bird migration this year. At one point over 100 ducks were in the pond and it was just thrilling to see so many different species. I’ve been particularly focused on the Hooded Mergansers, trying to get some decent photos to work from. Like the Wood ducks, they are especially shy of being photographed. Not being a particularly good photographer, I’m happy if my photos are simply in focus enough for me to work from! Later on, in the comfort of my studio, I can use some “artistic license” to fix the colors and positioning!
