Mark your calendars!! I will be hosting my 4th Annual Open Studio weekend on October 13th & 14th this year. I know, August seems early to be talking about it but I want to be sure you put the date in your calendar and help me have a successful event by stopping in that weekend.
The year 2018 is a special year because it marks the 100th anniversary of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, one of the first federal environmental laws enacted which protects over 800 species of migratory birds. The law was enacted in an era when many bird species were threatened by the commercial trade in birds and bird feathers and the protections also cover the habitat and environs necessary for the bird’s survival.
To mark the centennial, I’d like to once again donate a portion of the sales of my artwork at my Open Studio Weekend to the Pondicherry Wildlife Refuge, which is a major stopping place for migratory birds and located right here in the northern region of little ol’ New Hampshire! Pondicherry is one of my favorite places to embrace my inner “bird nerd” self, connect with nature and take the photos I use as visual memory guides when I’m back in my studio creating artwork.
